This lovely little Japanese kyodai vanity mirror came from the Gion Kobu district of Kyoto. It appears to have been made in the 1950s or 60s but may be a bit older than that. It is made of lacquered, Japanese Kiri Paulownia wood. It has three drawers: two for brushes, lipsticks, etc. And one deeper one for taller makeup items. There is glass set into the top surface. It has a lovely flower and leaf design in three places on the front of the drawers. The deep red lacquer finish has some smudges from use over the years and the mirror very minor fogging caused by the humid climate in Japan. There is some chipping to the lacquer at the front edge of the top. It is structurally very sound with no cracks or other damage and is perfectly usable with a lovely vintage patina. See photos for details.. In Japan, this would have been used on the floor but it can be used on a table top and would look fantastic with some of our traditional cosmetic brushes & makeup items on it! Mirror Diameter: 20 X 15 cm 8. It will be carefully packed and fully insured with tracking. A kyodai is a mirrored Japanese dressing stand or miniature table with one or more drawers.
